Root Original Bronze Powder Review

Bronzer

I love bronzer. It warms up any face, winter or summer, and can be used to lightly contour the face. I’ve always preferred pressed powders as they’re less messy, but in my quest to find natural and healthy beauty products I found Root. Their bronze powder has only four ingredients. FOUR! I couldn’t help but to try it out.

About Root

Root is a company born and raised in Iowa. The founder, Krista, started Root in her kitchen and it’s grown to this fabulous line of personal care and makeup products. They’re all still made in the USA of natural and organic ingredients with none of the toxic stuff we shouldn’t be using. All of their products are both vegan and gluten free. Root aims to provide professional grade, natural products at a reasonable price and nails it!

You can find an array of both loose and pressed mineral powder makeups from foundation, blush, and bronzer, to a full line of lip products, and eye shadow. They have skin care and hair care products too. For my first order, I chose their Setting Silk, Original Bronze Powder, Flirt Lipstick, Brooke Pretty Gloss, Loyal Pretty Balm, a sample of their perfume, and four foundation samples.

Root Original Bronze Powder

This loose bronzer comes in a sifter jar WITH a sifter seal, I wouldn’t have even considered ordering a loose powder without one. I seem to make a mess with my loose powders. The twistable seal prevents extra product from filling the top and spilling. Their packaging is simple, cute, and effective. The jar is a frosted plastic and topped with a smooth white lid labeled with their logo in a pretty pink. There are three shades of this product; light, original, and sunkissed.

Formula

I chose to try this bronzer because it’s a medium shade and has a matte finish. I don’t like shimmery bronzers. The product is smooth and easy to tap out of the sifter. A little truly does go a long way. This bronzer is easy to apply with an angled brush and blends nicely for a natural glow. I also use it on my neck. Even without foundation on my face, my neck is lighter. So I slightly warm up the outsides of my neck to match my face. I focus my bronze powder slightly under my cheek bones, around my temples, and just under my jaw line and down the sides of my neck. It would be hard to apply it incorrectly as it goes on so smooth and natural looking, it’s fantastic for both new and seasoned bronzer users.

Left- natural light, Right- artificial light. Applied with my finger for maximum saturation.

Ingredients

There are four ingredients in this bronzer which is why I chose it over some of the other loose and pressed bronzers I’ve found. The others I have on my list are clean and natural too, but they have a long list of ingredients, some of which I don’t know whether they’re safe for Jett. Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide, Mica, Zinc Oxide- that’s it!

All of their loose powders are soy free. Their pressed powders all have soy, I wish we could try them out, but I’m still avoiding soy for Jett’s sake. Their lip products are now all soy free, they do still have some of the previous formula in their stock. Simply add a note in the comments section of their checkout form to ensure you receive soy free lip products if you need them- they also will send a soy free sample!

Cost

Root’s bronze powder comes in a 4.5 gram container and costs $12. That’s right, just $12 for a safe AND functional product. At this price point, you can easily start your clean and natural makeup stash!

Root Perks

Root has “Pretty Points” that you can accumulate for money off of your purchases. You can get points by following them on various social media sites, 8 points for every dollar in purchases, and you even get points for logging on to their website. 1000 points gets you $10 off a purchase. You also get points if you refer someone and they make a purchase.. Here’s my link to shop!! You’ll get 10% off your purchase of $25 or more, and I’ll get some pretty points towards a discount on one of my future purchases- more product reviews for you!!

Shipping is $5 and free for orders over $75. I received my products within 5 days of ordering, even though I had four foundation samples which they state to give them an extra day or two as they make them per order.

They offer samples in every one of their products, which is helpful. Root doesn’t accept returns of opened products to help keep their amazing prices low, so the samples are helpful. They also will help you choose shades if you send them a selfie in natural light without makeup on. (They chose my correct matching foundation this way)

Customer Service

As many of you know, I’m a stickler for ingredients. Their whole staff is so knowledgable and helpful. Krista, the founder, is happy to answer questions that the rest of the staff can’t, which usually happens on derivatives of some ingredients. Time wise, I’ve never waited more than a few hours to hear back from them which is outstanding!

I haven’t gone through the process of a return yet, but I accidentally ordered two of the same color lip gloss so I’ll be emailing them to see about an exchange and I’ll let you know how it goes!
